As the Director of Pipes and Drums of the world champion youth pipe band at Haileybury College, Lincoln Hilton spent years working with traditional chanters that were often out of tune, prone to squeaks, and required endless adjustments. The frustration of dealing with different-pitched chanters, sharp notes, flat tones, and moisture buildup became a constant battle that interfered with the ultimate goal: making beautiful music.
Driven by a passion to create something better, Lincoln set out on a journey to design an instrument that would change the way bagpipers approach their craft. What started as a quest to solve common tuning and performance issues led to the creation of the Hilton Chanter, the first chanter tuned to equal temperament. For Lincoln, this wasn't just about improving the instrument—it was about elevating the entire experience of playing, from practice to performance.
